The Bones of My People

My wife's mother was named Gertrud Baltutt (nee Jakumeit). She was born in 1913 and passed away in 2004.

This is the story of her experiences at the end of World War 2 as a civilian forced laborer in the Soviet Union, from 1945-1948. It is written in first person because it is adapted from a transcript (in German) of a tape recording of her describing her experiences. The translation was done by my wife and I, and I wrote the story based on the translation.
